Can tire pressure drop in summer? How much?

Summer ground temperature rises, there are many owners plan to tire "deflation treatment", this is reliable.

Standard tire pressure does not change with temperature

First of all, the rise in temperature leads to higher tire pressure, not to "lower" the tire pressure, but to "reset" to the standard tire pressure. The national standard "GB/T2978-2014" clearly stipulates that the standard pressure of ordinary tires is 2.5bar, while that of reinforced tires is 2.9bar. 2.5bar is only an intermediate value, most of the tire pressure between 2.2 ~ 2.5bar is the normal value. If it is filled with nitrogen, it will be more stable, so don't worry too much.

If the tire pressure is too low and too high, it will increase the puncture rate.

The tire is in good condition. Usually, the air pressure will naturally leak 0.1-0.2bar in a month. If the tire is aging and the air leak will drop faster. The tire pressure is generally 2.2-2.5bar, and the manufacturer's recommended value generally appears in the vehicle user manual, the label next to the cab door, and the fuel tank cap.

If the air pressure is too high, the tire cord will be over-stretched and deformed, which will increase the load of the car. In case of impact, it will easily crack and burst. It will also accelerate the wear of the tire crown and reduce the rolling resistance; if the tire pressure is too low in high temperature days, the friction coefficient between the tire and the ground will increase, the carcass deformation will increase, resulting in excessive heating, and the probability of puncture will also increase.

How to prevent tire blowout in summer?

According to the statistics of the traffic control department, 32% of accidents on expressways are caused by flat tires every year, which is an alarming number, so explosion-proof inspection is really important.

  1. Regularly check the four-wheel tire pressure

It is recommended that it is best to test in a normal temperature environment, not when the tire is hot, which will lead to inaccurate measurement results, usually about 0.2-0.3bar higher, and pay attention to the smooth road surface.

  2. Regularly check the tire status

Tire wall damage, tread bulge, tire puncture and excessive wear must be repaired or replaced in time.

To sum up, when the high temperature strikes in summer, we can lower the tire pressure by 0.1 or 0.2bar, that is to say, on the basis of 2.5, keep the tire pressure at 2.2-2.5bar as normal.
